Genital herpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. It is mainly caused by infection with Herpes simplex virus II (HSV II). Early pregnancy infection of HSV II can lead to abortion, premature delivery, stillbirth, neonatal congenital malformation and mental retardation.

The Convergys® POC RT-PCR Herpes simplex virus, type 2 Detection Kit provides molecular evidence for an infection with HSV II.
